One site for the indecisive mind of Jeff Bergier. Through my internet travels I have found that I can't organize my thoughts well enough for a Blog. For this reason my old blog has gone unupdated for more than six months, yet I update my Twitter account far more often than my followers would like. But Twitter is not a proper outlet for more organized thoughts. I have created this site to bridge the gap. A wiki should allow me to combine full on blog posts and other articles and small updates on my life. Hope you enjoy.
Newest Article: A Comma in Design
American English teachers have always taught me that when making a list in an English sentence, a comma separates each of the items in the list but for the last item it is optional. For example, “Suzy needed to pick up milk, eggs, sausage, and cornflakes.” The comma before the word and is supposed to be optional. All through elementary, middle and high school that is always how I wrote lists. I thought that it was more consistent and more clearly showed that the last item was in the list that the beginning items were in. More recently, however, I have changed my mind and no longer use the optional comma.

Newest Blog Article: iPhone 3.0 Upgrade Experience
My iPhone 3.0 upgrade went very very well. This was 400% better than my 2.0 upgrade. The upgrade only took about 15 minutes and everything went flawlessly. With 2.0 everything essentially had to be erased. This meant all the music had to be resynced and the icons didn't keep their positions and then it gave me an error where mail would crash whenever I opened it. Then in an attempt to fix it I opened the mail options in Settings. Whenever I opened those options Settings would crash. So I had to restore and lose all my settings. Recent Post: An Examination of NeXTdesign
Design by committee. Come one, you know every designer worries about it. The nightmare is that you, as a designer, will come up with a great idea only to be told that the idea is untested and needs further supporting evidence. There are some companies that are known to be like this. Google, for instance, doesn't make a single design decision without massive user studies and equally massive amounts of number crunching. Google is such a successful company that the question must be asked as to whether design by committee is a good thing or not. Studying the history of NeXT should help make clear as to whether design by one is better or worse than design by committee. Concepts such as designer freedom and market viability are things that NeXT struggled to balance. Most importantly, what did NeXT’s struggles with a design by one philosophy give to the design world?
